Room Simulator (VRS) (MAC/PC) Warning : all our products needs the DSPLIB to be installed : please download it here and follow the installation instructions. Add a new dimension to your Music! The VRS is the only tool that can fully simulate a 16:16 environment with reverberation. All the surround possibilities can be created from its clear layout. But make no mistake, VRS sounds for the PRO recording.
31 August 2001 : Update VRS v1.50. the mix between the Reverb and the raw signal has been changed.
Why the Room Simulator is not a part of the VERB family? The Virtual Room Simulator is a completely different tool. The reverberator inside is specially optimized for surround mixing and live space simulation. If you listen it (try the demo) this is self explaining. The Virtual Room Simulator sounds natural with all instruments. Piano, Drums. BUT you don't have the creativity of a Verb PRO. The Verb Series is designed to be a state of the art reverb, which does not means that it does sound realistic. Even if you can do something close to a realistic ambiance with a Verb PRO, you cannot simulate the distance between each instruments! Here is a list of its features :
The Option Panel The Option Panel configures the Midi support and the LFE and HFE channels.
The HFE is a DSPDEV enhancement to the Dolby requirements.
About the Outputs
User Manual There are 2 presets buttons. The POS button save the position surface speakers, sound sources and listener while the REV button set some preset room size and colors. Reverb Section : Preset : this button run the Preset list Loader where you can load and save your own presets, or factory ones. Wall : Type of Wall. On the left the Walls have a metallic sound. More you turn this button on the Right more warm will be the sound reflections. Ref : stand for Reflections. This button determine the number of early reflections and their presence. Early reflections are the reflections that are bouncing from the wall directly to the listener ears. They are bright and short. Damp : is the Damping time. As you probably known, the highest frequencies are not sustained as much as the low ones. That a physical property of the sound in general. This button change the damping time. If you turn this button to the left, the highest freq are damped very quickly and the result will be very dark. If you turn the button on the right side, the highest frequencies will not be damped. The sound will sound smooth or metallic. But remember that a realistic room should damp the sound otherwise it will not sound natural. Size : this button is complex and can dramatically change your room accoustics properties. This button change the room size form 2 meters up to 400 meters. The best is to play with it. Color : this button simulate the atmosphere and temperature of the room. On the left it is hot, on the right cold. the sound changed very much a cold room will sound more bright. A hot room will sound more heavy. MIX : this button change the level of the the reverb in the room. DO not add too much reverb, or only when you tune the reverb otherwise your sound will loose his punch and will sound wet and and dirty. If you want to have a very realistic ambiance turn it only and 35%. If you are in a cathedral you may try a 50% setup but if you add more, be careful to not destroy your mix. Presets Each preset try to reflect a real life situation.
For example the Full Orchestra 5:1 sample illustrate how to dispatch the different sections of an orchestra to simulate their position in the room space. Il you try to re-create an orchestra without using the VRS you'll have all the parts close to the listener and the result will be far from a realistic orchestra. If you play a midi file with an orchestra and connect each section of instruments to the VRS input, you'll have a more realistic result. The Speakers are prepared for a 5:1 recording. So this preset will enable you to reproduce an orchestra in 5:1 & Stereo. The Trio 5:1 preset does exactly the same for a group of 3 musicians or instruments.
And the Quatuor 5:1 for a group 4 musicians
The Surround 5:1 (and 6:1) are presets that set the Speakers at the right place. It is up to you to place the instruments where they need to be.
Of course these presets are not limited to Classical music. The Trio could record the group Police (3 musicians) as an example. These presets are very useful for Jazz like performance as well, or any music played with natural instruments. |
