The Limex B21ST is a Limiter/Compressor unit designed for mastering and sound Leveling.

This device is a sophisticated audio gain controller, but what it does is simple: it makes quiet sounds louder and loud sounds quieter. Set the 'Exp/Lim' output level and the B21ST gently boosts signals that drop below your target, and smoothly pulls back those that rise above it. Operation is automatic, precise, and transparent.

If you need to mix a song for Broadcast for example, you will need to make sure that your track has a constant dynamic range so everyone will listen every part of your track without the need to change anything. This is critical for advertising, radio and everything that need to be listened in open spaces.

The action of the Limex B21ST can be resumed with this schema :

As you can see, the bottom dynamics are raised by the expanded while the limiter lower the highest. The result is a constant dynamic range very transparent, more punch and a better understanding when speech are mixed with sounds or music.

These are used in radio, T.V. or movies and should be considered when you need to send a demo to a broadcaster.

DSP use :

The Limex B21ST is very light on DSP, less the one DSP! So everyone can take benefit of this great professional device.

Threshold:

This determines the necessary amplitude for expansion and limiting to take effect. Most extreme effect is at the min (fully counter clockwise). The stay simple the Threshold will move the sound space between the green and the red up and down.

Ratio Knob

The Ratio Knob determines the size of the leveled window. More ration means a smaller window and as a result will compress the sound between the ratio of the Limiter and the Expander. It also determines the effect curve. Its action is symbolized by the green arrows.

Exp/Lim

This knob add gain to the sound source, symbolized by the red arrow on the above picture.

The graphical Pannel.

You will notice that the ratio button has almost not effect on the graphical panel. I've decided to keep the know in the most useful range, so you have a better precision with this know, and leave the graphical panel all the power to go to extreme limits.

Saturation

This Knob controls the level of valve saturation in the final signal. It can be used like the Korg Electribe valve button, add warm or not.

Valve

This Knob controls the valve harmonics to be added to the sound.

Dry

This is the level of Dry sound in he final output.

Level Meters

The level meters can be assigned to the Limiter or Expander drive, or to the output.
