Last update : 28-08-2001
We have rationalized our Verb Series and upgraded all the Verbs with the latest Gold new algorythms.

What do you get when you purchase the VERB PRO Package?

The owners of the VerbPRO pakage will receive the following products:

the Verb ONE old Budget Reverb based on a Moorer Algorythm + Spread Engine.

the Verb One Ext (smoother + Special Delay Verbs Features)

The Old Verb PRO 1.4  with Hyperfilter and Compressor.

The Latest Verb PRO with Spread Engine and Tube Style Reverbs.

How does it works

The Verb PRO is a true Stereo input -> Stereo Output reverb. It is particularly adapted to vocals, pianos, instruments, keyboards, and in general any reverbs needs. It is optimized to use minimal PCI and SHARC resources, while sounding very professional. On some computers you can use up to Three Verb PROs at the same time, but most users will safely handle TWO without experiencing a "PCI overflow".

It is probably the First reverb to have so much different sounds possibilities. Have you ever heard a plastic room reverb? In a Tube? Reverbs specific to Techno?  The verb PRO is really creative and has a lot of personality. Combining the Reverb Modelization and the Presets you have more than +250 presets under your fingers!

..And Presets are not only surface savings, but each preset is a different internal setup. The Verb PRO has a lot of hidden  algorithms in order to have a really leaving sound, a wide range of sound possibility but being still fast to use and setup, .We had to use the presets rather than adding a bunch of button because this devices is designed for productivity and rapid use. That's why each preset is a different program, a starting point from where you can create and get inspired.

The Verb PRO has two modes, the Direct mode and the Insert mode, just click on the button to set it to the right mode depending on the way you have connected it..  The insert button maximize the reverb result (the mixer gain is done by the mixer).

The Drum FX button adds a LOT of harmonics to the signal to have a really rare dense reverb, but sometime too much for pianos and most natural instruments that needs to conserver this own harmonics, so use it carefully. On Drums it is really fun!

Internally?

The Verb PRO must stay a little bit "secret", we have spent a LOT of time to find a new sound and we don't want to explain the recipe.  But to resume, the Verb PRO is a classical Moorer reverb but with a feedback delay network system and an exclusive waveshaper called Spread Engine.

Installation :
Just copy the .dev  and the .pre files in your Devices directory (c:\pulsar\devices) and drag & drop it the .dev your project. Connect the "2 IN" in the "Aux Out" and the "2 Out" int the "Aux Return". It works like any other effect.

Remember that every DSPDEV product use the DSPDEV LIB. You must have installed before starting your Pulsar, Scope r Luna software.

VerbPRO Technical specifications :

  • True stereo, with binaural simulation.
  • ROOM/PLATE/LARGE/UNIVERSE/GARAGE/METAL/NEW AGE etc more than 50 types of reverbs (and growing).
  • Room modelization : more than 10 different setups for the basic rooms that can be combined with all the presets..
  • You can change the Reverberation time, the Damping, the pre-delay and the reverb color from the front panel.
  • The Diffusion, button can change the reflections to simulate warm reverb, metallic reverb, wood rooms, or delay reverbs.
  • Space button to enlarge the stereo output image.
  • GATE effects for doing the typical "Phil Collins" gated reverb effects. Great on heavy drums.
  • a 4 points parametric graphical equalization to change the reverb color.
  • 32-bit internal calculation power
  • use the exclusive Spread Engine, to create an incredibly dense texture..

Small User Manual

TIME : this button controls the reverb time. (from 0s to infinite)

DAMP : Controls the damping of the room simulated. The higher damping, the more the room will absorb sounds. Some materials, like furniture, absorb sounds more easily than others (brick).

PREDELAY : Controls the time in milliseconds it takes before the reverb takes effect. In other words: The original signal is delayed this many milliseconds before fed to the reverb.

DIFFUSION : Controls the density of the reflections bouncing off the walls of the virtual room. A low diffusion setting makes the reflections sound more distinct, like closely spaced echoes. A high diffusion setting creates reflections so close they sound more like white noise, where no echoes can be distinguished.

GRAPHICAL 4 point panel : Controls the brightness of the sound. You can use the very helpful 4 points EQ. You can obtain 'dark' & 'bright' rooms. Doubleclick in the panel to add or remove curve points.

Bypass

When bypass is activated, all input is copied to output without applying any effect.

Presets

It is where the Factory presets are stored. You can add you own presets, but we recommend using the PATCH button instead of this one, so when we will add more presets, you'll not loose your own presets.

The factory presets do not store the graphical panel, or the input / output gain, or the mix between Dry and Rev. The Presets are only saving and loading the Reverberator configuration.

Reverberator.pre contains all the presets, it must be located in the same folder where the device stands.

Patch

The Patch button will save an exact state of the reverb, including all the front panel button not changed by the Presets. We recommend you to use this button to save your own presets. In the future version of the Verb PRO we will add more presets, so you'll have to replace the reverberator.pre file. That's why it is better to save your presets with the Patch button, if you add our new presets, this will not change or remove yours.

Drum FX On/Off

Each Preset has his own Drum FX setup. This button must be used in relation with Drums. It is Spreading the signal in a way that it will add a lot more delays . But too much delay means also too much sound alteration that can alter the original sound in the way that it change a piano in an Honkey Tonk piano! That's why it is better to use it on Drums. We could call it Spread Engine booster!

Color On/Off

This button turns on or off the graphical panel just over it. It is a Equalizer bypass.

Direct / Aux button.

This button is here to prepare the reverb to be used in direct more or connected to the Aux of the Bigmixer.

In Direct, you need to have a mix between the Dry and Reverb effects. If you connect the reverb directly to the sound source or just to the Mix out L/R of your mixer, use it Direct more.

If you connect the reverb to the Aux of the Bigmixer, then you'll be able to mix the Dry and Reverb signal directly from the mixer itself. In that case, you'll need to have as much Rev signal coming out from the Reverb. In that stage, the Rev button is set at its max, the dry button at 0 and the Reverb result is boosted by 24DB. This grant you the best reverb dynamic right in your Bigmixer.

SPACE

This feature can be turned on/off with the small button on the top of it. It is used to Spread the signal in space like if you were turning your head from left to right. This is a simplified version for a surround feature, but easier to use.

REVERBERATION TYPES

FEEDBACK

The Feedback affect the number of time the same signal will bounce from wall to walls. No feedback will do a clean reverberation. Feedback at max will create a complex delayed sound.

WALLS

This button change the walls absorption. Turn this button to the left and you will have a wood like delayed reverb. Turn it to the right and you will have a metallic sound. The Smooth is somewhere in between.

SPEED

This parameter change the sound speed. As you know, is doing a "Doppler" effect. That means that its tune changes with distance. When you move this button you can change "Doppler" by hand.

SIZE

This change the size of the room. If the size is small the sound will be metallic. If it is too long, you'll heard some delays.

SPREAD

This new button affect the Spread engine itself and change the sound spread. More you add Spread, more the signal will be detuned.

TAPS DELAYS

These presets are changing the rooms parameters. (basic size and shape). There are currently 16 different room style.
